Bike & Build cyclists find a place of respite in Pittsburgh

Getting from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to 620 Smithfield and Smithfield United Church of Christ in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh requires good directions.

The first to arrive was route leader Mick in early afternoon.

Then came the van and the trailer – a moving billboard for Bike & Build – filled with the necessities of life on the roadways of America.

 
 
 

Soon it is not just one bike but 33.

 

All had arrived by 5:00, ready for showers and fresh clothes, a chance to care for injuries, an opportunity to sit on a real chair or to stretch out on the floor, to get out the cell phones and computers, and

 

to focus on the upcoming pasta repast prepared by SUCC's John, who has been head chef each of the three years the church has hosted the group for this first night in town.
