Strawberry Festival June 2010

Strawberry Way street sign

The Smithfield United Church of Christ Strawberry Festival returns to Strawberry Way – with strawberry shortcake and strawberry sundaes offered by the church and barbecued ham, kielbasa and kraut, haluski, pierogies, and soft drinks by the good folks at the Smithfield Cafe.

The strawberries have been halved, the shortcakes cut into squares, the whipped cream and ice cream stored in the coolers.

Thankfully, the weather is cooperating. It's not too hot. The June rains have given us a bye. As their first customers arrive the ever faithful Smithfield Festival team members are in place and ready to offer extravagant hospitality to all. Will it be a sundae or shortcake? With or without ice cream? Whipped cream on top? That will be $3.25. You only have a twenty? Not a problem.

As the office clocks close in on 12:00 noon, the crowds begin to grow. and soon there are folks waiting patiently in ever lengthening lines.

As always, Andy Warhol and Andrew Carnegie keep a watchful eye on the activities below. There looks to be plenty of kielbasa and kraut, but Warhol really wants strawberries! Will this be the year someone finally takes note of their abiding presence and sends up some strawberry shortcake to the two Andys?
