School procedures
The word "disciple" and the word "discipline" are related. At Smithfield School we have rules and consequences in place to create an environment where everyone can become a better disciple of Christ. Families, please review our four classroom rules with your children: ![]()
When we observe children following these rules, we'll respond with praise, special privileges, and treats. If a child is unable or unwilling to follow the rules, we will respond first with a clear verbal reminder, then with a supervised time-out outside the classroom. If the child persists in breaking the rules, we will return him or her to you for the remainder of the class session. Please support our leaders in their efforts to maintain a safe, loving, and respectful atmosphere where all children will feel encouraged and valued. Worship The nursery will be open throughout the worship hour for children from birth through age 2. (Please also feel free to keep your baby with you in the sanctuary.) All other children will begin the worship hour in the sanctuary. Children sit with their families, and youth have the option of sitting together as a youth group. Children's activity bulletins with activities appropriate for ages 3-6 and ages 7-12 are available from the ushers. Be sure to ask for a copy if your child would like one. Children are also welcome to bring a book from home to read in the sanctuary; however, we ask that iPods, electronic games, and cell phones be turned off during worship. After Children's Time, children in grade 4 and higher will remain in the sanctuary with their parents. Children age 3-grade 3 go to Pilgrim Adventures, a multi-age class that explores a single theme over an 8-12 week period. Suzy Bossart will lead this class. After worship, please pick up your children from the Pilgram Adventures classroom. They will not be permitted to leave without being checked-out by a person named on their registration forms. 8/30/09 Copyright © 2000-2010, Smithfield United Church of Christ. All rights reserved.
